RE:TRAIN to go from...
Movement Struggles to Efficiency and Ease
Movements that used to feel easy are now daunting and irritating to perform.
Reduce stress and strain in your body for longevity and adaptability.
Fitness Burnout to Sustainable Progress
The gym has been anything but a restorative place for you in the past.
Find out how to work with your body instead of against it.
Limited Capacity to Resilient Strength
You often feel like you don't have the capacity to do all the things you want to.
Build up your baseline so you have energy for what matters to you.
Feeling Fragile to Trusting Your Body
Past injuries make you feel like another catastrophe could be around the corner.
Improve your confidence and expand your abilities through smart training.
Why your injuries and symptoms keep returning.
Your body is always communicating. But are you listening?
Injury, pain, imbalance, and stiffness, these are signals that...
the body is compensating.
certain joints aren’t doing their job.
strength is being built on top of poor movement patterns.
When training ignores these signals, the body adapts, and eventually, it breaks down. This is not weakness, it's feedback.
This is why we developed the L.I.S.T.E.N Method, because injury, pain, imbalance, and stiffness happens when we stop listening to our bodies, and override the signals.
Listening doesn't mean backing off. It means responding intelligently instead of reactively. It means training with your body, not against it. How do you do that?
How is RE:TRAIN different from other training options?
At RE:TRAIN, we support clients who, despite trying various training, rehabilitation, and treatment programs, continue to experience pain, stiffness, imbalance, and difficulties with daily mobility.
We work with clients who are no longer seeking quick fixes but are ready to commit to working towards long-term, sustainable change.
We use movement-based rehabilitation techniques to address pain and dysfunction, ensuring long-term recovery and resilience. Our focus is on improving mobility while applying load to all the anchor points within the body. This act of stabilizing the nervous system can restore trust in your body. Once safe movement is established, we’ll progress to building resilient strength for meeting everyday challenges.
Core Components
We develop tailored recovery and exercise programs for your individual needs and goals. Components include:
Targeted and Functional Movement: Exercises are selected to restore functions needed to achieve your personal rehabilitation, fitness and wellness goals. This includes correcting compensations patterns (blog post coming) that may have developed due to stress, poor posture, injury, and aging.
Progressive Loading: Intensity, speed and repetition of exercises are gradually increased as the body adapts and grows stronger, building resilience while preventing re-injury.
Mind-Body Connection: Incorporating mindful techniques such as specific breathing rhythms and weighted breathing to enhance body awareness and control, and build deep pressure stimulation to help calm the nervous system and manage pain. We take you from fight-or-flight response to a rest-and-digest state.
Integrated Care: Hands-on, manual therapy for joint mobilization and soft tissue work, where appropriate, to prepare the body for better motion.
Patient Education and Self-Management: This is the most crucial element of our program and what truly sets us apart, we empower you with the knowledge and tools to manage your health on your own. We help you build better body awareness, curiosity, and the confidence to experiment with different approaches and exercises to continue your healing and strength building journey.
If you are tired of hype and quick-fixes that don’t last, and ready to put in the work, schedule a consultation to get your journey started.
The RE:TRAIN Approach
What you will learn:
Ease is efficient: Excessive effort is not required. Moving with ease enhances efficiency, reduces strain and stress, and supports long-term results. We challenge the body enough to require efficiency builds over time to keep up.
Foundations of Recovery: Working with your nervous system and rebuilding trust in your body lays the groundwork for recovery, resilient strength, and pain-free movement.
Less is more: Strategic, purposeful movement yields better results.
Understanding impacts of stress, injury, and aging on movement.
Daily stress, injuries, and aging can significantly impact the way you move. These factors can lead to the development of maladaptive compensation patterns -- ways of moving that originally meant to protect you from discomfort, but now have become stuck as your default and have resulted in pain and/or further injury.
A simple movement like bending your knee to lower down can become impossible due to injury. This results in the compensation pattern of hinging your hips to lower the torso with straighter legs, and using the reverse motion to lift back up. This can be a fine (adaptive) strategy for a long time if needed, but if you don't restore the knee bending eventually, the chance of your hips or back feeling overloaded will be higher, because you're relying on one pattern too much to compensate for another pattern that doesn't feel safe to use.
Simply put, RE:TRAIN is all about making movement patterns feel safe and strong, even if they don't right now. To do this, we build awareness around how we are moving, and create challenges that encourage less familiar patterns to do the work and shift load to where it's needed. This keeps the same old aches and pains from getting worse.
Methods
RE:TRAIN is the product of many years of learning while helping individuals in rough waters. Symptoms like severe nausea, migraines, chronic fatigue, and joint pain preventing them from participating fully in a normal life or any kind of traditional workout routine.
Even before the end of my Kinesiology degree at Simon Fraser University in 2017, I knew there was lots I needed to learn to become an excellent trainer. My own issues with injuries and imbalances made me curious about all the ways the health and fitness industry suggested I tackle these problems, and it's led me to study from many incredible teachers and systems, including Nathan Nussbaum (MovMed), Adarian Barr, Eric Arceneaux, Functional Patterns, David Grey, and many more.
Training methods used our programming can vary depending on the case, including strength training, mobility, functional movements, breath work, circulation restoration, nervous system regulation, and skill-specific training. We continue to stay on the cutting edge of innovation in the field, doing the research so our clients can reap the benefits with ease.
Many individuals who have worked with us have already seen physiotherapists, chiropractors, and various specialists, but still felt they needed help getting past a plateau. Thankfully we've been able to find a smarter way to integrate fitness and wellness into their lives.
